Look I... really hate saying this, but you're easily the most competent person in this damn resort. And hell, the fact that you're willing to protect people every Thursday night is enough for me to think that you're a damn important person to this team.
[Ripley raises an eyebrow, a genuinely surprised expression on her face. Normally, she'd make fun of him for complementing her--something along the lines of "are you feeling alright?", maybe. She bites her bottom lip, looking away from him.]
Phil, my job is literally to die for someone else in their place. If the mafia decides to go after whoever I'm protecting that night, I'm done for.
[Another pause.]
If that means someone else lives another week, though, I'll take it. That's why I've been busting my ass these past few weeks to try and...I dunno, make a breakthrough before that happens.

[Medic rubs at his temples, frustrated. On the one hand, there's the fact that, according to Ichigo, there'll be a way to bring them back to life at the end. On the other hand, that doesn't mean he wants Ripley to die, even if it's for someone else. Because what if Ichigo's wrong?]
I'm glad that you're trying to protect people and grateful that you'd been keeping an eye on Snake but that doesn't mean you're not important too

Of course I know what effort I put in matters. But it seems like every time I try to get somewhere, try to protect someone, they end up doing something stupid and trying to kill themselves anyways. It's frustrating.
[Like Akira. She snorts, managing a half-hearted grin.] Granted, I guess the only difference between me being alive and me being dead is I won't be able to take the fall for anyone anymore. And I won't be able to help anyone else get out.
[Ugh ok Phil needs to sit down again. He's almost positive that Ripley will murder him if he tries to sit on her bed so he opts for the floor again.
This whole conversation is really sobering him up, and he's at a loss. Heck, they never really got along but he didn't want Ripley to be forced into a situation where she would die if she tried protecting someone!
After a moment of silence, Phil clears his throat to speak.]
... Sorry for ditching that one meeting to make out last week.
It's fine. I needed a little more levity last week, to be honest. It's just...after everything that's happened this weekend, I feel we need to step it up more than ever.
